Analyst coverage when AI writes the summaries
Analyst attention is rising in the finance journals, and AI tools now summarize filings and earnings calls for anyone. Only 13 of 246 recent papers on analysts carry an AI keyword. Do analysts drop the small firms that machines now summarize, or use the time saved to dig deeper?
What prompted this
In the finance journals, "analyst attention" had 12 papers in July–September 2026 against about 7 expected (see the finance dashboard). Since October 2025, 246 papers carry an analyst keyword such as "analyst coverage" (96 papers) or "analyst attention" (46); 160 of them are in finance journals and 41 in accounting. Only 13 carry an AI keyword.
Questions
- After brokers adopt AI tools, does each analyst cover more firms, and which firms gain or lose coverage?
- Do forecasts become more accurate, or more alike, as analysts start from the same AI summaries?
- Do investors still react to analyst reports when an AI summary of the same filing is free?
