Where Chinese firms list now
Initial public offerings appear on 48 recent papers, but only 7 of 91 IPO papers carry a listing-venue, cross-listing, Hong Kong, STAR Market or delisting keyword. Chinese firms have moved from New York to Hong Kong and Shanghai's STAR Market, and some have delisted from the US. Does the venue change who invests, how firms are valued and how they behave?
What prompted this
Since October 2025, 91 papers carry an IPO keyword (51 in finance journals), with "initial public offerings" on 48 and "IPO underpricing" on 19. Only 7 of the 91 also carry a listing-venue, cross-listing, Hong Kong, STAR Market, delisting or overseas-listing keyword; "STAR Market" appears on 8 papers in all.
Questions
- Are firms that list in Hong Kong rather than the US valued lower, and does the difference reflect investor base, disclosure or politics?
- What happened to the firms that delisted from US exchanges: did they relist elsewhere, go private or shrink?
- Does the STAR Market's registration-based system produce IPO pricing closer to that of Hong Kong or of the old approval system?
Data that could help
IPO and listing records across exchanges, delisting announcements, valuation multiples and ownership data (CSMAR, Wind, Bloomberg).
