Composite reliability
← Most-used equations and models · All measurement reliability and validity equations
Reliability of a construct from its indicators' loadings, used with structural equation models.
LaTeX: CR = \frac{(\sum_i \lambda_i)^2}{(\sum_i \lambda_i)^2 + \sum_i \operatorname{Var}(\varepsilon_i)}
Variables and notation#
lambda_i are factor loadings and Var(epsilon_i) indicator-error variances; CR is reliability of the weighted measurement construction shown.
Worked example#
For loadings (0.8,0.6) and error variances (0.36,0.64), CR=1.4²/(1.4²+1)=1.96/2.96≈0.662162.
Related methods and when to use them#
Composite reliability permits unequal loadings; alpha has stronger equivalence assumptions for its usual interpretation. This form assumes a single factor and uncorrelated measurement errors; standardized and unstandardized inputs must not be mixed.
